Legibility from the road
- Numeral height of 8–15 cm reads from the pavement; 15 cm and above reads from a car

- Contrast matters more than size at night, which is where backlit numbers win
- Keep the digits unspaced in the correct order — decorative arrangements confuse delivery drivers

How tall should house numbers be?
8–15 cm for pavement visibility and 15 cm or more for a house set back from the road. Where the number is only seen at night, backlit numerals or a small light fitting matter more than extra size.
Can illuminated house numbers run from a doorbell supply?
Yes. Backlit numbers run on a low-voltage supply and can usually share the circuit used by a doorbell or entrance light, with a small driver hidden inside or behind the wall.
