Brushed Stainless Steel Signs
Brushed stainless is the most forgiving metal finish in signage: it hides handling marks, ages evenly outdoors and looks deliberate in daylight without needing illumination. It is also the finish most often specified badly, because the grain direction is invisible on a drawing.

Why brushed beats mirror on most buildings
- Hides fingerprints, dust and light scratches that mirror finishes show immediately
- Reflects light diffusely, so letters stay readable from an angle
- Weathers evenly on a facade instead of showing patchy reflections
- Costs less than mirror polishing at the same letter size
Mirror is the better choice when the sign is architectural and seen head-on indoors, such as a reception wall. Brushed is better for anything outdoors, anything touched, and anything viewed from an angle.
The detail most people miss: grain direction
Brushed stainless has a directional grain. If the grain runs horizontally on one letter and vertically on the next, the sign catches light inconsistently and looks wrong — most obviously on a large logo with mixed letter shapes.
- We set one grain direction for the whole sign and keep it through fabrication
- Grain direction is marked on the approval drawing, not decided in the workshop
- Curved letters need the grain to follow the intended direction, which uses slightly more material
- For coastal locations, grade 316 stainless resists pitting better than 304
Send the logo and a photo of the wall. We will confirm the letter depth, the grain direction and the fixing method, and show all three on the drawing before anything is cut.

Summary

Does brushed stainless steel rust outdoors?
Grade 304 resists weathering well in most locations; for coastal or high-salinity sites we recommend grade 316. Fixings are sealed and the returns treated to prevent tea-staining around fixing points.
Can brushed stainless letters be illuminated?
Yes. The same letters can be built as halo (backlit) signs, or with a front-lit acrylic face inside a brushed return, depending on whether the metal or the glow should lead.
What is your minimum order quantity?
Our MOQ is one piece. We welcome custom orders of any size, from a single sign for a small business to complete signage solutions for commercial projects. Can you match our brand colours and logo?
Yes. Send us the artwork and we will reproduce it in the construction that suits your project. Custom colours can be spray painted to your PANTONE or RAL reference, and metal parts are available in brushed or mirror stainless steel with electroplated finishes including titanium gold, champagne gold, rose gold, black steel, antique bronze and antique brass.
